On Monday, May 27, members of the TUC SPE Student Chapter from the Technical University of Crete had the exceptional opportunity to visit the TBM - Veikou construction site of the new Metro Line 4. Students from the Schools of Mineral Resources Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering at TUC, along with students from the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, participated in this enriching experience.
About
The SPE Student Chapter is a student chapter of the International Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), based at the Technical University of Crete and specifically at the Department of Mineral Resources Engineering, founded in October 2018. A key contributor to this effort was Professor Varotsis Nikolaos, Professor of the Faculty of Mineral Resources Engineering, Technical University of Crete, who has served as academic advisor since the establishment of the chapter and whose contribution has been catalytic.
Chapter activities include a series of technical and general lectures on Oil and Gas, Renewable Energy, Energy Transition and Environmental Impacts by distinguished speakers from industry, research and technology,as well as collaborations with renowned institutions abroad such as the University of Southern California. Several of the activities were carried out in the framework of the SPE GAIA Sustainability Program SPE Ambassador lectures Program actively participating in the international industrial and research community.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the TUC SPE Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers of the Technical University of Crete was awarded with the "2021 SPE Student Chapter Excellence Award" for its overall activities during the academic year 2020-2021 and was featured in the Greek Press through the International Relations Office of the Technical University of Crete. The activities of the 2020-2021 year were organized during the period of the TUC SPE SC presidency by the students of the Faculty of Mineral Resources Engineering, Mario-Stylianos Akritidis, Charilaos Margiolakis, Vangelis Authentopoulos, Tryphon Kiaitsi and Charalambos-Aris Vlachokyriakos in collaboration with the chapter's Faculty Advisor Prof. Andreas Yiotis of the School of Mineral Resources Engineering.
Mission
The mission of SPE is to collect and disseminate technical knowledge on hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation. The student chapters promote SPE activities at university level and offer knowledge aimed at improving the theoretical, technical and professional competence of the stakeholders.

The Technical University of Crete is a state university which was founded in 1977 in Chania, Greece.
The school of Mineral Resources Engineering was founded in 1983 and admitted its first students in 1987.
